Hello everyone. Welcome to the Saanich Lacrosse Association!
My name is Scott Barillaro; the current President. I am currently in my first year in the position but my sixth year as a Board member focused on the younger age groups. My son discovered the sport when he was four and started in U7 (previously known as Mini Tyke) as a five year old. He will enter his second year of U13 this year and has now started playing field lacrosse with Pacific Rim.
I did not grow up playing lacrosse but I have come to appreciate the sport. I watch minor and senior lacrosse whenever I can. I've coached at the U7, U9, U11 and U13 level over the past few years. I have been very lucky to be around other great volunteers who have helped me learn the sport so I can support new and experienced players as much as possible.
I am by no means a lacrosse expert. We are fortunate enough to have many other people in the Association who are. That said, I feel very strongly about creating the right conditions for kids of all ages and abilities to gain an appreciation for the sport, acquire new skills, develop athletically, be part of a team, learn how to compete, make friends, and have fun. The Association's job is to provide positive experiences to all our members: players, coaches, officials, managers, and parents. That is why I accepted this role and what I hope we can achieve together.
I do not think I will have to coach this season (although I likely won't be able to help myself given how much fun I have with the U7s and U9s). That said, I plan to be around the box and games as much as possible. I encourage you to contact me at president@saanichlacrosse.com if you wish to connect.
