Hello Saanich Lacrosse Community.
The Association is just doing final testing on the new registration system for the 2025 season. Registration should open this week. To that end, we wanted to give everyone advance notice of when the Association will hold evaluations for each age division.
Teams in U13, U15 and U17 will be tiered. Players that wish to play for the "A" team must try out. Players that do not wish to try out will be automatically placed on the "B" team.
U11 teams will not be tiered and players will be assessed to create balanced teams. U11 players will also have the opportunity to participate on the Association's Jack Crosby Tournament team if they wish. The Crosby team provides U11 players the opportunity to experienced tiered competition against island and mainland associations.

* The Association had difficulty finding a suitable time for the third U17 try out date due to scheduling conflicts for players, evaluators and coaches. This date will be confirmed as soon as possible and communicated to families.
The Association recommends players attend all tryouts for their age division. However, the Board understands players and families may have other commitments that conflict with tryout dates. To that end, players must attend two tryout dates to be considered for the "A" team. Special accommodations regarding minimum attendance may be considered under exceptional circumstances. The Board will consider these on a case-by-case basis.
Players identified through the evaluation process will be invited to a Coach Led practice in early February 2025.
The Association reviewed the approaches of other minor sports associations and decided to hold closed tryouts this season. This means there will be no spectators in the lobby area, the viewing area near change rooms, or along the north side of the playing area at Eagle Ridge. This will enable players, coaches and evaluators to focus on their respective tasks and minimize distractions.
All players that wish to attend tryouts must register and either a) pay their fees or b) provide proof of application for minor sport financial assistance prior to the first session they attend. The Association will do its best to accommodate families that cannot meet these requirements provided it receives advance notice.
The Association is in the final stages of updating its Player Evaluation Policy and Process document. This information will be posted to website prior to the first tryout so players and families can familiarize themselves with how the process works and how players will be evaluated. The Association will also set up a separate registration form for each session so families can plan. This information will come out in a separate email after registration opens.
Thanks for your support and we look forward to seeing the players at the sessions
Sincerely,
Saanich Lacrosse Board
